ISIDORO POLENCIC WINERY

Isidoro Polencic entails a journey towards the northern-eastern part of Italy, to the famed Collio region, on the borders between Italy and Slovenia. This is a place with a long-standing tradition of dedication to viticulture, a place blessed by the proximity of the sea and protected by the mountains.  The family produces white wines from grapes that are rigorously selected, noble and speak to the beauty of the land from which they were born.

The vineyards date from 10 to 25 years old and they use the Guyot system providing good density.  The soil is rich and comprised largely ofmarl and sandstone.

Region: Friuli

Pinot Grigio

Vinification and Maturation:

Harvested and selected at the perfect point of ripeness, the grapes are softly pressed and the free-run must be obtained for about 12 hours. This is followed by a slow fermentation in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature that lasts for 15-20 days. Maturation continues for a few months on the lees in steel fermentation vats until reaching the complexity, creaminess, and suitability for aging. Bottling then takes place in February.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Intense, bright, straw color with a slight nuance of antique pink.

Bouquet: A fine, enveloping wine with intense floral notes, presenting hints of acacia flowers and hawthorn, which in our hills are enveloped by touches of white and yellow fruit such as pear and peach, followed by a fresh minerality and a light citrus note.

Flavor: On the palate, it is very complex and particularly harmonious, with hints of pear and white peach for a persistent and very elegant finish.

Serving Suggestions: Good combination with hors d’oeuvres, fish soups and white meat dishes.
